Common Vein Conditions & Treatments

Chronic Venous Insufficiency

Chronic Vein Insufficiency (CVI) is a common yet often overlooked vascular condition that occurs when the leg veins struggle to efficiently return blood to the heart, leading to uncomfortable symptoms and potential health complications.

Treatment Option:

Endovenous
Laser Ablation (EVLA)
Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA):
Our minimally invasive EVLA treatment is a 45-minute outpatient procedure that closes off unhealthy veins using a laser catheter. We then redirect your blood to healthy veins. Most patients can resume normal activities on the same day.

Treatment Option:

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure that’s quick, painless, and typically takes 15-45 minutes. We inject a foam or liquid agent under light or ultrasound guidance to close off bad veins, which include varicose and spider veins. The collapsed vein shrinks and reabsorbs into your body.

Treatment Options

We start DVT treatment with anticoagulant therapy, which involves taking blood-thinning medications to reduce your risk of clot formation. Our goal is to prevent the progression of existing blood clots and prevent new clots from forming.

For persistent clots that don’t respond to initial treatment, we can administer thrombolytic drugs to begin the dissolution process. We might also recommend wearing compression stockings to alleviate leg swelling and enhance circulation.

In more complex cases, our specialists might try advanced endovascular techniques to remove or dissolve stubborn clots.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) occurs when blood clots in the venous system beneath the skin’s surface. It occurs most commonly in the legs, specifically thighs and calves. However, those with DVT may also experience symptoms in their arms or other parts of the body.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are swollen blood vessels beneath the skin. In some cases, they’re the product of your skin growing new veins where it doesn’t need them due to hormonal changes, pregnancy, or certain medications that contain estrogen. Unlike other vein conditions, spider veins are generally considered a cosmetic problem and don’t pose any serious health threats.

Treatment Option:

Ultrasound Vein Mapping
Our advanced ultrasound technology maps your entire vein system to identify unhealthy veins. Each ultrasound exam takes 60-90 minutes. Once we identify problem veins, we will review the ultrasound images, explain the results, and discuss treatment options.

Varicose Veins

While not considered a life-threatening medical condition, varicose veins can cause discomfort and lead to more severe issues, such as blood clots, if not treated. Beyond the swelling or pain caused by varicose veins, they are often a source of embarrassment due to their unsightly appearance.
